Description
Hello, I was contacted by Puget Sound Energy who informed me that they intend to remove a mature and fairly large evergreen tree in the right of way (which I believe is property owned by Mercer Island), directly in front of my property. PSE is planning to replace a utility pole that is nearby, although the tree won't interfere with the pole itself because it's about 10-15 feet away from the pole. My understanding is that PSE is more concerned about the tree branches interfering with the wires that connect to the top of the pole. PSE claimed the city is aware of the tree removal plan. However, given the city's goal to retain or increase tree cover on the island, I would like to request that the city either refuse to have the tree removed and instead ask PSE to trim the branches as needed to protect the wires. Alternatively, if that isn't possible, for the city to replace the tree with a new smaller tree that won't reach as high as the wires yet still provides shade and helps with air quality. There aren't many large trees left of my street, and I would love to find a way to preserve tree cover.
