This has been occurring for approximately five years, creating a consistent and dangerous situation for both drivers and cyclists.\n\nI have personally experienced multiple close head-on collisions due to vehicles obstructing the lanes of travel.  I also know that there have been several prior complaints about this issue, including one I submitted around three years ago.  Despite these repeated reports, the situation remains unchanged.\n\nThe Mercer Island Police Department has several tools available to address this problem, such as issuing warnings or citations to violators and contacting the business to request that parents refrain from parking in active traffic lanes.  Enforcement action would go a long way toward improving safety in this area.\n\nWhat makes this even more frustrating is that I regularly see an officer parked about one block north of this location, sitting in the median, likely monitoring the future light rail area, which is not yet open.  If that officer can be redirected even occasionally to monitor this traffic hazard, it could prevent serious accidents and demonstrate that the City is responsive to long-standing safety concerns.\n\nPlease take immediate action to address this ongoing issue before someone gets seriously injured.
