Description
Good Evening. I spoke with someone at the Summer Celebration about a set of trees on a fairly steep slope in the center of the SE 47th place Cul de sac.
Sometime around when the permitting process concluded for the new build house across the street, the city installed some orange construction fencing and several posted signs that (to my recollection) declared the trees and surrounding soil a critical tree/soil structure area. The signs are gone. I am guessing it was to do with the trees stabilizing the short but steep hill that they are perched atop. This was, maybe, 2 years ago.
Everything was fine and the fence was respected with adequet distance maintained to the trees and surrounding vegetation. however, the construction contractors (unrelated to the new build construction) that were replacing the water lines in our entire neighborhood removed the fence, flattened a large swath of the area and used it as a staging area for large machines and bulk aggregate material. Further, they also carved a large channel through the area to run an under ground line to a water meter on the south side of the road.
In summary, my question/concern is that there must have been a reason that those tree/soil protection mechanisms were previously installed. I am concerned that the fence removal and subsequent alteration to the critical soil structures may cause long term issues. I would love to understand if my concerns are valid and/if the protection fences should be reinstated. The large flattened area has since been vacated by the water contractors and is now adopted by the new build construction crew for heavy equipment, dumpster, and vehicle parking.
