Issue #17410844 — Intersection Traffic Control

{"acknowledged_at":"2024-08-31T00:18:53-04:00","address":"8800–8810 Se 44th St Mercer Island WA 98040, United States","closed_at":"2025-01-30T09:11:46-05:00","comment_url":"https://seeclickfix.com/api/v2/issues/17410844/comments","created_at":"2024-08-31T00:18:52-04:00","description":"During MIHS school drop-off  (7:40-8:05am the intersection of 44th and 88th is very dangerous   Families coming from the south end approach the high school off ICW from 8th oAve SE r 86th  Ave SE   If coming north on 86th Ave SE, a large number cut across on SE 45th or SE 44th to avoid the back-up on SE 42nd  This cross traffic creates a hazard as they trying to join the traffic that is already moving at a steady pace on 88th Ave SE  I would like to request a stop sign be installed on 88th Ave SE at the intersection of SE 44th St  This intersection is dangerous especially during school commute times because student drivers (and parent drivers) are often in a hurrry to school to avoid a tardy   I have seen multiple near misses at this corner  The intersection is also dangerous o during normal hours as drivers don't always anticipate oncoming traffic on 86th Ave S\n\nIn addition the corner of 88th Ave Se and SE 45th St has a horrible blind spot due to the overgrown bushes  Even after city staff have trimmed the bushes it is still difficult for cars trying to enter 88th Ave SE to see if the turn is clear  Cars often inch forward into the intersection causing a hazard for both vehicles   If you add in inexperienced student drivers, this is an accident waiting to happen  \n\nI would invite you to drive the route from the south end of MI up ICW to 88th Ave SE around 7:50-7:55pm (or to observe the traffic behavior at this time) to see just how dangerous the route is   The driving has been complicated even further with the introduction of e-bikes and scooters (and regular pedestrians) on this route   \n\nUnfortunately I don't think people will slow down on their own and it may be necessary to add speed bumps or stop signs to ensure student drivers, pedestrians and all drivers remain safe   Thank you for reviewing this concern   e  o","flag_url":"https://seeclickfix.com/api/v2/issues/17410844/flag","html_url":"https://seeclickfix.com/issues/17410844","id":17410844,"lat":47.56731959776355,"lng":-122.22159096729727,"media":{"image_full":null,"image_square_100x100":null,"representative_image_url":"https://seeclickfix.com/assets/categories/signs-6693545b1fdc5149cf533ce1afe0b4809a4bd2826dee86a6afd74d110c8ded70.png","video_url":null},"point":{"coordinates":[-122.22159096729727,47.56731959776355],"type":"Point"},"private_visibility":false,"rating":6,"reopened_at":null,"reporter":{"avatar":{"full":"https://seeclickfix.com/images/no-avatar-100.png","square_100x100":"https://seeclickfix.com/images/no-avatar-100.png"},"civic_points":0,"html_url":"https://seeclickfix.com/users/2591140","id":2591140,"name":"MRitter","role":"Registered User","witty_title":""},"request_type":{"id":33216,"organization":"City of Mercer Island - NOTE: Emergencies should always be reported to 911 immediately.
