Description
Dear Mercer Island Public Works Department,
I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to bring your attention to a matter of public safety that I believe warrants immediate consideration.
The intersection at 47th SE and 86th Ave SE currently lacks a stop sign. This has led to a situation where vehicles approach and cross the intersection at high speeds, creating a potentially hazardous condition for both motorists and pedestrians.
I have observed numerous near-miss incidents at this location, and I fear that without intervention, it is only a matter of time before a serious accident occurs.
Installing a stop sign at this intersection would significantly enhance safety by controlling traffic flow and reducing vehicle speeds. While I understand that there are costs associated with the installation and maintenance of traffic control devices, I firmly believe that the cost of a stop sign is a worthwhile investment when compared to the potential costs associated with accidents, including property damage, medical expenses, and the invaluable cost of human life.
I kindly request that the city conduct a traffic study at this intersection to assess the current conditions and the potential benefits of installing a stop sign. I am confident that such a study would confirm the necessity and value of this safety measure.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. I believe that by working together, we can make our community safer for everyone. I look forward to your response and to seeing improvements at this intersection in the near future.
Best regards,
Paul Brown
